I keep hearing people say “stop playing the victim”. Fortunately I’ve only had people tell me not to fall into the roll of ‘victim’. It’s odd to think that process through when you’re an adoptee. The victimization starts when you are born and not wanted. I don’t know of one adoptee that feels or talks about being a victim. But in reality we really are a victim. This thought is what makes me feel stronger than I actually am. Knowing that I don’t think of myself as the victim but when I look at it with someone else’s eyes it looks like I really have every right to the title.
Some people have said that my birth mother appears to be playing the role of the victim. In fact it seems as though she may not know any other way of life. It’s nice to know “your life is what you make it”!
